I need a new laser for my brothers PS2 he has a SCPH-30001R with a model number of U1286535.

I have opened the PS2 before and had to change a power supply and a reset button ribbon but never the laser. Is it hard to do?

Not that hard, but you could certainly buy one at ebay, and most of them come with instructions
