I've tried some searches and didn't find exactly what I am experiencing. If it's there, my apologies.

I went through PS2fliptop.com to get my magic switch & swap magic disc combo. I got the two switches (one small square piece to snap over thing in back of PS2 when you look down on it and small hook piece that goes near the front of the lid, above the power switch.)

I have the slim PS2 75001, which I was told was the same as the 70000 series.

I followed the instructions per www.ps2fliptop.com webpage (where I got the switch from). Everything looks like it did in the diagram. Except one of my bottom screws is covered by the warranty seal, so it's gone now.

However, the first piece, the small square piece that fits over the thing near the back of the PS2 (when you look down on it). It says, "place on top and lightly press and it will fit snuggly into place." Well, mine don't fit snug, it doesn't snap down. Almost like it's a tad bit small and rests on top. So I had to use a drop of superglue to keep it there.

I put the small switch that goes on the flip top part, that you can slide left or right. No problem installing that and putting the PS2 back together.

However, my discs do not spin!!! The spindle moves by hand freely and seems unobstructed, however the discs do not spin and I get stuck on the "Browser" screen. This is with the Swap Magic disc and any game discs.

I took the PS2 apart and put the cover back on, making sure everything was aligned, etc. I have tried barely tightened the screws in case I had them too tight and it was rubbing, etc. etc. But it won't spin or read disc. I've moved the switch to the far right so I can shut the lid completely, no luck. Although the right front corner near switch, of the lid does stick up about a cm higher than the other side. But I cut the small tab out. I've tried pressing it down even, which is easy, but no luck either.

Could this be because that small square piece is resting on top of that sensor thing? I can pop it off and try to see if it spins freely then, but can I put a small piece of tape over top? If so, what kind? Electrical, duct, masking, etc.

Otherwise, I am lost as to why the discs won't spin and I get stuck at the browser screen. I was careful opening the case, handling the switches, etc. I may be almost 40, but I wasn't shaking either.

Thanks in advance....

Yes, if the small square piece is not settled on the sensor at the back properly, i am one hundred percent sure thats the problem, i have just put some Electrical(insulation) tape on mines. Take the cap off with care, otherwise you might end up breaking the switch, and put some tape on it. PM or post for more help.

3dluis, I responded in PM.

Waleedwc, thanks for your input. Well, with the little cap, I had to pop it off, since I had a drop of glue on it. DOES ANYONE EVER GET SUPERGLUE TO WORK ;-) Well, that one tiny drop would have held the roof on my house, so.... It popped that little sensor off.

However, nothing seemed to change. It boots fine to browser, but does not spin discs.

This is the switch I got from PS2FlipTop with instructions (BTW, my 75001 has the warranty sticker over one of the screws. Guess what... Voided now..

http://www.ps2fliptop.net/pstwoinstall.htm

Any suggestions on how to get this back to normal (even without switches, just to play games on it)? The "sensor" that poped up still has the spring intact and I believe with my work magnifying light, I can probably insert it back onto the base. I have micro tools, so I may try that if you think it will help, but I will wait for a response.

I also sent ps2fliptop.com an email asking for help, because I was told on the online chat I needed the switch pictured in the link and followed their instructions on installation that is on that page after they told me my 75001 was the same as the 70000 series. Thankfully, I saved the transcript.

If your trying to say the sensor has come off, then your one of those people who will have a big problem repairing ur PS2, Post a picture up on what the sensor looks like right now, firstly you need to get that sensor back to how it was, if you pulled the cap of the actual sensor, but the only thing that remains is the spring, it still wont work correctly.
Firstly, open up ur PS2, connect all the wires up, and turn your PS2 on, once you have done that, go to the browser menu, put a disk on the spindle motor, and push the spring in the broken sensor down, and hold it there, with your other hand hold down the other sensor on the power switch, if the disk spins, u may have a bit of luck.
Still post a pic of what the switch looks like right now.

I am not sure how to attch pictures here, but if the "sensor" is the small square piece near the back of the PS 2 to the left of the disc system, where the cap goes over, then yes, it came off. It came off when I went to take the cap off of it.

I looked closely and there is a VERY tiny spring holding a small black square / hinge piece. However, that little spring is not attached and I am not sure how it went. So where the sensor is, the black outline around it is gone. The spring is gone and the little tiny tiny arm is out too.

I really believe that I am in the "your screwed" category. But what fires me up is that when I gave my PS2 number (75001), I was told it was the same as the 70000 series and now I hear it is not. With the warranty sticker over the screw, with the sensor not the right size for the cover switch, etc.

PS2fliptop.com responded quickly to my email and offered to see if they could fix it for free, if I pay shipping both ways. I'll give them some customer service credit, but in my line of work, this is where companies can be eaten up. Especially if they are telling you something that turns out not to be correct or true. However, I have no desires in spending more money after being told I needed that switch and paid for it and next day air. I already popped $49 into this and I have a PS2 that is probably ruined. But if you think it can be fixed, then it may be worth the shipping both ways.

However, if we are talking about the same sensor (where the ccover goes), then there is nothing there. No cap, no spring and no hinge. It is just barron & silver there.

It is repairable, get it fixed by them if they are offering you a free of charge repair, shorting the inside of the sensor is risky, and on this forum site, i have seen a few people who have done that and fried there motherboard, so get it fixed by them, ur PS2 is not completely dead coz the sensor is gone.

I just want to clarify, they did not say they would fix it, but look at it. No guarantees.

I just wonder, regarding back ups of my games. I have a v1 PS2 upstairs and I have a slide card. I wonder if I am better off buying a refurbished older PS2 from one of the video game stores that tests them. Then just use the slide card with that. (assuming it cannot be fixed).

Ok, after looking at your quote, i doubt that they will fix it, those sensors are made by SONY, for another company to get there hands on them is kinda rare if u know what i mean.

What would be your thoughts, since I will probably have to get another PS2. Get another slim model and try again with switches (don't like that idea) or get a refurb older PS2 and just use my slide card?

I guess what I am asking is what is really the benefit over the switches vs. slide card?

I'd love to have a mod chip installed, but that is not my cup of tea and it's expensive to send out to have it installed, etc.

Read my pm, If you do get a new ps2 slimline and you still want to use swap magic, Get a Black Slimline, Not a Silver Slimline. Also , try to get a older slimline because its more compatible with Swap MAgic and its switches. Next time Buy the Original switches as shown in the pics on the pm i sent you

Thanks. I didn't realize the switches I bought were considered that bad. Well I learned and no thanks to a company that tells me that's what I needed. I doubt I will send it back to them, instead I think I will package up the PS2 in a nice bag and hold onto it until I do some more research.

Well lets compare the switches you bought to the switches of the official Nagic Switch.

Original Magic Switch Pro
3 Tools
Warenty no void
Its Black
No Opening PS2
Easy to install
No Glue Whatsoever (may need tape to hold tool a)
Can get the lid close

The Tools you bought
2 Tools
Warenty HAS TO BE voided
Its silver which looks ugly on your black ps2 and noticable
Has to open ps2
Has to cut the little tab with a razer knife
Hard install
Some glue needed
Can move tool A right and left

The thing is that i cant understand is, The tools you bought doesnt have a another tool. Which is used to keep the disc stopper to the right side, but how can you play games if the disc stoper is still intact with the disc.

Sounds like deception / fraud to me. They couldn't have picked a better person to tell something that was incorrect and then not specify voiding my warranty. One thing to clarify, the tool on ps2fliptop.com is not silver or white. It is on their website to show it clearly. It is black.

But nonetheless, the guy on their online chat told me that is what I needed and I clearly specified what I had. Thankfully, their online chat allows you to print and save transcript, which I did.

I will contemplate firing off a letter of notice of intention to them since I doubt they will want to replace my PS2.

If I get another slimline, it will probably be refurbished. I will then go with the proper switches. If I stick with an older version PS2, I will just use the slide tool.

Read your PM i replied, also if you do get a new slimline, sell your old one for more money, OR FIRST try sending it to your retailer shop to try to get it fix. Dont listen to what they say about Do this Do that, Just try getting it fix, if it does get fix, it save you big bux on a new slimline

What's the deal with the break lever? Right now, it is to the left, resting against the disc. Seems like that may be holding it from spinning. When you open the lid on the slim PS2, where should that break switch be (left or right?) Either way, it's not being told to go the right to let the disc spin freely. I tried a small piece of tape (didn't have to open case) and it didn't help, but I imagine that is because the sensor is broke.

The tool you bought doesnt have the tool for the disk brake, it moves to the right automatically when you close the lid, so dont worry about that, but listen to 3dluis, everythin he has said is true, you should try and get it repaired by some shop before you go out and spend a load on another ps2, and if ur gonna buy a slimline, by the black one, and later buy the original swap magic tools.

I do agree with Luis and I am going to have it looked at. Fortunately, I live in a large city and there is a service center a few miles away. I am going to bring it by there and have them look at it. It may cost me to fix it, but I will weigh out the pro/con of the cost.

I have never seen the silver slimline PS2, so that won't be an issue. I will only buy the black one. But if I have to buy another PS2 and decide to get the slimline, I will be stuck with the 75001 series again.

Will the pro switches work fine on that? I know Luis said the older slimlines were more compatible, but I am not sure if any of the local stores would have the 70000 ones.

Do you know off hand if the PS2 box has a cutout over the serial number area where I could look at the model?

Lastly, I will need a Magic Switch Pro regardless if I get mine repaired or buy a new slimline. And I know there are threads with "buy here." But to avoid the hastle, can you either post or PM me a link to a reliable business that sells the Magic Switch Pro in the US with fast shipping?

And I just want to make sure, if I have the black slimline, I do not need that D tool? That is only for the silver slimline that came out or is it for the newest PS2 slimlines that are out now?

So...um...I think I've done the exact same thing to my new PSTwo that McPhenius did, which is why I'm piggybacking onto this thread. The cap wouldn't fit on my brand-shiny-new 75001, so my brother got the wonderful idea to hold shut the sensor with super glue, and now my PS2 also sits on the browser screen, unable to read discs.
Edit: The cap is not in the PSTwo, just the superglue and switch.

Basically, I was wondering whether I should try to get the superglue off, or if I would be better off trying to return a PSTwo without the warranty sticker to EBGames. (I only bought it a week ago.) The switch piece from ps2fliptop's kit is still in place, if that matters any.

I'm very curious if you got your switches from ps2fliptop.com? Also, I did not superglue the sensor. I put a drop on the border of the cover piece of the switch and set it on top of the sensor cap. Problem is, the sensor cap, spring and arm popped out when I popped the cap off!

Then I learn, I didn't even need that cap and the switch I got was not meant for my PS2, which is opposite of what the people at ps2fliptop.com said.

I took mine to a local repair center and showed the guy. He said he would make some calls, but he'd never repaired the sensor area and said if he did get the parts, it would be more than half the cost of a new one and he wouldn't guarantee it. So I am thinking I may need to buy a new one, but might look for a refurbished PS2 slim 70000 series.

Lol First thing i want to say is You and McPhenius are so alike what a big coincidence, McPhenius Buys a new Slimline 75000, and You buy a slimline 75000, you both buy swap magic, than you both buy magic switch off the SAME site lol, you cant snap the cover on, and you both use super glue lol. Now that i got that off my chest, Now onto the serious bit
Quote:
brand-shiny-new 75001
When you mean that by the shiny bit, do you mean the silver ps2 or the black ps2 slimline.

Firstly I'd take the super glue out and that, so you can start over, than you try to put the cap on, if it doesnt fit anymore, just leave it, than try giving it back to Electric Boutique, and if they ask for the warrenty, say it broke and i was quite a expert in wiring so i opened it to see the problem, but when i opened it, this thingy snaped. Hopefully if you put it in the box and give it back to them, they wouldnt look for the warrenty, theyd just ask for the reciept and ask for a exchange with another ps2 or a refund. ;D

It's a black one.

And I'm not having any luck getting the glue off, so I'll just have to see if my brother can undo it. Otherwise, I guess I'll try to exchange it in a day or so and get a kit that actually works for the v14 (anyone know of a good one?)
