Would I be able to play PS2 internet games on this?

I live WAY out in the country and all we have here is dial-up internet service. I really want to get into on-line PS2 gaming but my internet is to slow. Would satalite internet work for on-line gaming or am I just out of luck? I have heard that it will work and then I have read that it will lag out all the time and keep kicking me off-line. I don't really know which is true but they want $600.00 for the sat-set-up so I wanted to ask you guys first. As always guys thank you for the information you give me, it really helps to make my life easier.

Satellite is usless for online gaming that requires any "speed".
Pings times are in excess of 1000ms
