Just download the newest update list, and it should save it to any compatible usb storage device automatically...If it doesnt work, that means either your disc is faulty (backups also tend to fail at this) or the usb storgae isn't 100% compatible

What i mean is that using a backup of Ar Max usually causes these kind of errors, and seeing as you only get a bin file in that mp3 player (you should get a few .dat and/or MAX files), there's something going wrong.

There is no real step by step, but here's what i do.
I load up my ps2 (connected to the internet), put in the Ar Max Evo and the usb stick, start AR, then when it asks if i want to check for updates i choose yes, let it download the update/new codes, and then it automatically saves to the usb device (which is an original Ar max one).
It gives me 3 .dat files (i checked it on my pc).

I should note here that whenever i use the backup that i have of my Ar Max, the updates either don't get saved or get corrupted, and that whenever i use my 1 gig usb pen, it doesn't save the updates either.

This is how you do it
Step One: put your flash drive in. format it to fat or fat 16
Step Two: Download the Recent Codelist from http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/00000_8933_ActionRepl.max
Step Three: Copy the code save over to your flash drive
Step Four: Go to Memory Manager
Step Five: Select the Pen
Step Six: Scroll to down to where it says Ar Codelist or something along those lines
Step Seven: After selecting the code save uncrush it to your memory card
Step Eight: Hit Start, Yes, Wait for it to reboot, go into the code browser and there is the massive list

If you want to know how to edit the list like as in get rid of the useless crap pm me
