Are these originals or backups? If they're backups, this would either be caused by bad media or burn speeds. What type of media did you use (ie - Sony 8X DVD-R)?
Also, you could try cleaning your laser to see if that helps.

I've never actually come in contact with a slimline, but when you open the flip top, can you see the laser? If so, you can just clean it from there with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. If not, you should be able to follow this guide: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
It's for a fat PS2, but you'll get the picture.

If you were having the same prob as coffy45 (PS2 won't read original discs), it's more than likely due to your laser. You try to clean it, and if that doesn't work, you could replace it. Other than that, there's no real way around it.
@coffy45: The other thing I forgot to mention (if cleaning doesn't work) is that there is a laser fix for slimlines that you might want to look in to.

Unless you have a flip top, you have to take the top off. It is a VERY easy process and if you follow the link, it has pictures of everything. The only thing you have to worry about is the Reset/Eject ribbon, but you have to be pretty careless to tear that off. Just take your time!!

First two: I used Ulead Gif Animator. Difficult program at first. The MK icon was just a gif image that I found on google.
Good luck with your PS2's!
