As far as a PS2, version 7's have been pretty good to people; however, it's hard to find them new. Otherwise, a slimline should be ok, as long as you get a laser fix for it.

For modchips, Matrix Infinity and DMS4 Lite/Pro are probably the best out there.

It helps extend the life of the laser. Slimlines have had a problem with the lasers burning out too fast!

I'm sure if you google "summone laser fix", you could get more in depth information.

do yourself a big favor, just spend the extra money and buy a premodded system. It will cost you less in the end.
Unless you are top notch with a soldering iron you would have to buy the PS2 ($150), Buy the modchip($50+shipping&tax)),buy the laser fix(for V12 only)($10+shipping&tax), Send it out to have all that installed ($35-50+shipping&tax) and pay return shipping.
you do the math.
a premodded system is around $260 for a brand new V13
or $235 for a referbished V12, $220 for a slightly used V7,V9 or V10

or another place, although that take a bit longer

The DMS4 Pro and Matrix Infinity are the 2 best chips for sure.
