I ran into an odd problem with my copy of NFSMW, well actually, it's Blockbusters copy. I just got a brand new PS2 slimline for christmas because my original PS2 broke, I think i wore out the laser lens. Anyway, it used to work on the old PS2 until it totally stopped working. How can I fix this disc the right way when alcohol just wont work anymore? Do those stupid disc doctor things work? If i can fix it, will i have to pay Blockbuster back even though i didnt do anything wrong to the disc and there is no visible scratches on it? Except one tiny one at the top, but I doubt thats why the game wont boot even on my new PS2.

BTW as stated above, its not a copy of the game, its the real game, any suggestions?

Since you don't actually own the game, you shouldn't be copying it because it is ILLEGAL. If it doesn't work, then it might be because of that laser problem in the new slimlines.

Do yourself a favor and BUY THE GAME.

YOU don't own the game if its BLOCKBLUSTER'S game, and if YOU don't own the game and want to COPY IT, then that is ILLEGAL!!!

Ok here is what I think ScottG1 is trying to say.

He rented NFSMW from blockbuster... it used to play in his old PS2 (which now the laser is bad). So he recently got a new PS2 which also does not read the disc.

At first I was thrown off when he stated "alcohol" thinking of the burning software... but I believe now he means the rubbing kind to clean off the lasers.

His worry is that he has rented this game and now that it isn't working he may get charged to buy the disc. Also his question was if the disc doctor thing works on the dvd's or not.

Hope this clarifies up the mist for some now and that we can properly help this member out.

It's pretty obvious in the first post what he was trying to say... He never insinuated that he copied it, only talked about "my copy", 'my copy' being the copy he rented...

Anyway, that's already been addressed.

Scott,

As for the game not being able to play in your New PS2, it could be one of a few things.

1) Just a bad laser right out of the box.

2) Since it played in the old PS2, it's *probably* not the disc (unless it's scratched up pretty bad on the surface, and you've already said it wasn't), but you may try checking the information side of the disc (the side that has a picture printed on it), hold it up with a light turned on and try to see if you can see through the disc anywhere - if so, that would be signs of the actual information being chipped away if it's deep enough. I had a huge problem with this in Iraq, a few grains of sand would get in my CD folder and wreak havoc on everything. I've replaced numerous CD's and DVD's because of information being scratched away.

3) Not a bad laser, but a dirty one. If you've tried a number of things and it's just not working, try to use a DVD lens cleaner in your PS2. I don't know much about the slim lines, actually I know next to nothing at all, except they got a flip top lid. But if it won't play games, it could just be a dirty lens. If the NFS game is the only game it's not playing, then I dunno.

Hope you get it figured out though.

Later.

Thanks, and yes, its only the NFS game, all of the other games work. In fact, i just bought NFSMW today and it works flawlessly on my new PS2, so im just going to return in to blockbuster. Very frustrating yes, but ill just have to deal with it. At least I finally have it all working!

And thank you Losat for being so polite and understanding. At least we still have some good people on forums. Props man.

I understood you fully all the time, but because YOU don't actually own the game (as in YOU bought it), you can't COPY the ORIGINAL disc.

Just answer this question: Did you BUY the game and want to make a copy of it (aka "backup it") OR did you RENT the game from Blockbuster WITHOUT buying it? If you answered YES to the 2nd part of the question, then what you are doing is ILLEGAL.

Okay, now that you have bought the game, then your copy is legal.

Ok, this is how it went. There was no copying done at all with any of the discs. All i was saying was the disc i had, came from blockbuster, as in, its not A copy, its their game, aka..store bought! No copying was done with any of the games! The game FROM blockbuster started not working.

Today, i went and BOUGHT NFSMW from BEST BUY! NOT A COPY!! Everything i have done is legal! So listen before you tell me whats illegal. I know copying games that arent mine is illegal, im not stupid ^_^

Well sorry I misunderstood you...I'm one of those people that HIGHLY despises illegal activity...and I'm also one to quick judgement (which is why I thought you wanted to copy the game). Sorry dude. One more reason why I thought you were copying the game is that a lot of times n00bs ask how to copy rented games, and when I saw you rented a game, I already thought you wanted to copy it.

Its ok its ok.. Dont worry about it, I would have thought the same thing, I've seen n00bs on other forums do the same crap. No I know that its illegal. To be honest, I've tried to make a backup of a game I had, and i couldn't even get that to work right in my PS2 lol I just buy games anyway.
