im not sure this would be a very commen question...Sorry if it is.
Is it neccasary to use ps2 or logitech headphones with the playstation2 or are you able to use any usb headset/mic

You can use any usb headset. Also you could use any USB keyboard :D

What do you mean they weren't making noise at the main screen?

All the headset does is allow voice recognition and online chat capabilities.
