Hello

I recently got fed up with my ps2 and the problems with japan not allowing alot of good games to come to the north america's. So i did some research and decided that i would import the games.
However it seems i need a mod chip.

I'm very unsure of what i need to do or get in order to make this work. My goal is not only to play import games but to use backups of games from my friends we have on our ftp. I dont know if these forums allow the discussion of pirated games, but thats not what i'm here for.

I have looked around and it seems this is the most popular and well knowledgeable forums.

So please go easy on me.

I have a model #scph-50001
and i have a dvd burner that does + and -
And a top of the line pc.

To boot the backups and imports you will need a modchip (about $100 with installation and shipping) or swap magic ($30ish I think?). I have a chip and it works great but it comes down to how much you are willing to spend. With swap magic you will need to swap your import/backup everytime you want to play. Check out http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/244546 for more info on chips and Swap Magic. To burn your backups you will need some high quality media like Verbatim, Ritek, or Taiyo Yuden. Either DVD+R or DVD-R will work with for you. I have that same version PS2 and use Ritek DVD+R media with a Matrix Infinity modchip.

I found that i can get the chip installed for 130. So i'm gonna go do that this week.

I guess my next problem is the games and how to work the damn thing.

Is there any software i need to copy the cd based games?
I already have nero
