Hi, I have a PS2 version 50001 with no modifications. All of a sudden, the video stopped working. I have read on how to fix disk error problems (and have in fact done that on other PS2's before). But I am not familiar with this problem.

Is there a reason why this would occur? The system still powers on, spins disks (I believe)- it just doesnt show up. Should I try installing new firmware, or can I replace the video card? Or do you think it is a laser problem?

Thanks!

have you tried wiggling the RF connection on the back of the console??? this often fixes just such problems. and no there is no video card to replace nor is there a firmware flash for the console.

Thanks, KC. I actually purchased it off EBay... hoping to fix it and sell it. I guess basically I am wondering if there is something on the board that could be busted? 'cause if that is the case- it is probably toast.

But I am going to open it up and make sure all the connectors are in the right place. I couldnt imagine the video just 'going out'...

But we'll see.

the BSOD is usually associated with someone trying to mod it and screwing up the bios.

EDIT: i've noticed the broke ps2's on ebay sell for more then the ones that work, you guys/gals get some sort of thrill out of thinking you can fix them? just curious.

The warranty seal on this has not been broken.

I dont purchase broken playstations for anymore than $25. When I fix them and resell them, they sell for over $100- my worst sale was $74. So I definitely maky my money's worth.... especially because most of them take about 15 minutes to fix.

But I have never seen this video problem. I have read when people try to mod it, the video frequently goes out. But I haven't read on how to fix that- other than replacing some kind of chip.

replacing the bios chip is about the only fix, unless you have the ability to reflash it and most of us do not. if you don't get it fixed and want to rid yourself of it for parts at a fair price LMK.
