I don't even know if this is a problem or if it's normal, but here goes:

I just bought an HDTV 20" 16:9 LCD TV, but it's a really cheapo one where you can't even force 4:3 or resize the image or whatever.

The image is perfectly adjusted when I use it to display TV or my computer's VGA output.

When I use it to play a PS2 game (Sony component cables) though, the edges are not completely stretched to the edge of the screen. Using the old-school 3-cable RCA output (1 video, 2 audio) on the same TV, the same problem appears but with different dimensions.

What's strange is that the screen is perfect when I'm viewing a movie through the PS2.

My guess is that it might be the TV's crappy auto-adjust, since a screen stretch adjustment is not available through the PS2 software.

Any input is greatly appreciated, even if it's just your opinion. I want to know if the TV is the problem and if so, I'll either exchange or just return it.

Thanks a bunch.

Forgot to mention: I use Swap Magic 3.3 to play my games. When I'm using the component cables, the SM front screen doesn't show for some reason. I don't know if it's related.

Thanks again.

in the PS2 system configuration you can set the screen to 16x9 for widescreen. your DVD's are most likely 'full' screen not 4x3 or 16x9 and thats why you see them full

Oh and i forgot to add, you may want to set it to FULL rather then 16x9 if your tv is that cheap of quality.

Thanks for the advice, KC.

My config is currently set to 16:9, but I heard either way this doesn't affect DVD playback.

Also, what really is the difference between FULL and 16:9?

I understand that it may very well be the TV, but DVD playback off the PS2 has theimage completely fill the screen whereas when I'm playing a game, the image area is a little shrunk and does not fully extend til the edges of the screen. Has this been an issue w/ PS2s?

Thanks a bunch.

in full mode from the PS2 system configuration menu you still dont get a full screen?????

for what it's worth when you use component video input (progressive scan) your set is supposed to be fixed in 16x9 mode if it's a widescreen.

The thing is that in FULL mode, the image fills the screen vertically, but not horizontally. It's like setting the horizontal image width on a CRT monitor.

never seen that happen, most often an image fails to fill vertically and this is called 'title box'
