Have you tried loading original games, music CDs, or legitimate movie DVDs into it? Also, what kind of mod are you using? Slimtool, fliptop?
Your problem could be as simple as your tray not being closed properly, thus not allowing your PS2 to read discs, but it can't really be said until you post more info on what you're using.

There have been a lot of complaints regarding the magic switch. In any case, try removing the mod completely, and restoring the system to how it was before it was modded. That should work, if not, then try holding down the lid after that last step.
I honestly think that the cause of your problem is that the sensors just aren't being covered.
But yeah, try removing the mod, and then try holding down the lid. If that doesn't work, then you might be in trouble.
Anyways, if that IS the case, then it's your slim tool. But we'll figure that out if it comes to that. Hopefully, it'll come to that :D

I had some issues with the Magic Switch Pro V2 on my PS2 slim 75001 model as well. The intial problem I had was the fact that I could not insert Tool D (the square cap) onto the switch on top of the motherboard. The space was a bit tight, and I did not want to use too much force, so I ended up taping the switch instead (even that was pretty difficult).
After I put the machine together I had the same problem which you were having, the disc not spinning. In my case tool B (which is used to insert into the disc stopper in the middle) was slightly longer than it should be and thus was stopping the disc from spinning. I actually had to use the sissor to cut put of the plastic so it could be inserted a little deeper.
After that the thing finally works.
In hindsight I think the toolkit was a waste of money. You can easily do this with some tape and careful use of tweezers.

A lot of people were using tape, tissue, and some other stuff. A lot of people like the slim tool, but it can be hard to find. I personally use the ps2lid for my fliptop. Of course, none of these is without their problems, but the slim tool's always been the best.

hi remyk313. thanks for reply i've took the magig switch's out
and tryed a original game with th lid closed, the disc starts to spin but does'nt seem to spin
fast enough then stops and goes to browser and says cannot read disc.
by the way on the bottom it says scph-70003 which i think makes it a v12
if that helps. the last thing i remember when loading a backup of the sims was it stoped on the loading screen and then kept trying to read
and sometimes the disc would spin a little the other way. i hope its
not to serious as i have'nt had it to long about a year i think.is there
anyway to tell if it's the laser.
thanks.omegavii for reply

Whoa... so no discs will load at all?
No music CDs, original DVD movies, or anything?
If that's the case, you may have a serious problem.
If you restored the PS2 to it's original form, and it won't read any discs at all, whatsoever, you may have a busted PS2.
I'm pretty sure that discs aren't supposed to spin the other way, at all, ever, for any reason. Discs are supposed to spin clockwise, always.
If you got your slimline between October-December of 2004, then you should know, a LOT of people were complaining about PS2 laser burnout issues for the earlier slimlines.
If you bought your slimline used, then check on the underside, there should be a number around the SCPH-70XX number in bold letters like "A5D" or something. That's the date code. If you bought your PS2 used it could help if you posted the date code on here.
If you bought your PS2 slimline around that time I posted above, you might have a faulty PS2. And if you bought your slimline recently, you might want to call Sony/your retailer.
So long as your warranty sticker (on the backside of the PS2) is intact, and you have your receipt, I think you have at least 90 days after original purchase to get it fixed by Sony.
I guess the last thing is to make absolutely sure that you restored the PS2 to the way it's supposed to be, and that you're using a CD/DVD that you know plays perfectly fine in other players around your house.
If you did that, and you still have problems, for ALL discs, then you have a serious problem. If it's Swap Magic that's not loading, you could have a bad Swap Magic, and if it's just the Sims 2, then you have a bad sims 2.
Hopefully, it's either of those BUT the busted PS2 :(
Anyways, post back, and maybe we can help you out some more.
