Loud noise from PS2 flip top?

I just installed a flip top on my brother's PS2 v7 and I was wondering if some of you can give me some info on some issues I am having. It works fine but I am wondering how long his PS2 will last.

When I put in the swap magic discs, the disc spins really loudly. It seems to me as if something like the laser is rubbing against the disc. It isn't quiet like I last remembered playing on a v7 PS2.

While the disc is spinning with the lid on, it is loud. Then I will open the top when the disc is spinning and close the lid. Then it works fine just like before.

When the discs sound like they are rubbing, there aren't scratches on the discs.

Do I need to check something or is this normal?

It depends on the kind of disc you're putting in there. CDs spin much faster than DVDs, so that may explain what your problem is. If you hear a grinding noise, or something similar, it may be a problem.

I don't know if it is too tight. It seems like the disc might not be aligned correctly with the flip top. When the game starts, I will open the lid and see that the disc is spinning so I will then close the lid. From then on, it is quiet just like before.

I think my brother's is okay but I am just asking if this is a normal result from modifying something. I know it won't be perfect but I am just trying to make sure that how it currently is set up with the noises, it won't ruin the system in a few months.

Are your PS2's with flip tops perfectly working as if nothing were modded?

Flip top not slim line. I have a slimline for myself and it works great.

I had the same problem when I installed a flip top on my V7 PS2. I would insert a game and when it spun it made some grinding noise. To fix the problem that I had I chaged the small white disk from the one that came with the flip top and used the original one that my playstion came with and that solved my problem.
