I don't think so. If it was my ps2 wouldn't be so hot at the bottom.

No fan.

The power pack is external to reduce heat, but it still gets mighty hot.

the fan is very small & i have been told that the ps2 slims are having problems with overheating. don't know if sony are going to rectify this as the new v14 fans are the same as v12.

The slimline doesnt overheatly as easily as you think, my ones been on for hours, and the temperature stays constant.

And secondly if you touch a heatsink of the slimline when its opened and a bulky old one the temperature is almost the same just a little difference.

Yep that fan is there. But it is pretty pathetic if you ask me, with my fat line ps2 I play for hours without heating problems but the slimline only goes a little while before heating up. Even though it has a crappy fan the console is designed to withstand such heat, I would think because of mod chips that switch off when things get too hot so sony used this knowledge to try and defeat some chips.

@ Pspness
I used a resistor in series with the LED connected to the 5V output from the USB port, i can still use the usb port without any performance loss since the LED uses only 1V.
If you would like pictures of were i soldered what and where the LED is placed let me know, but i wont be able to get round to doing it since i have a science assignment due soon, and i have to complete it.

The slimline does get warm, of course it does, what doesnt, but it doesnt overheat so quick, im sure a company like "Sony" would never intentionally create a machine that cant handle a few hours of play, since it has a DVD player is well, most companies nowadays check there machines in very rapid conditions to get the most reliable information to the consumers on the product. I think the slimline would definitely have overheating issues if it didnt have a fan, but the fan does kinda keep it all stable, however if your not satisfied there is always a attachable fan you could buy for you slimline from somewhere, this ones kool but i dont need it:
