Hello is there anyone out there that can help me, I just bought my son a ps2 system. It does not have a mod chip, and we would like to know how to burn the ps2 games, would someone pls be kind enough to give us a step by step lesson on how to go about this. We have the DVD X copy Xpress and the Mero strat smart programs installed in our PC. We don't know what comes next. Please please help, I have already spent a bundle on the system, memory card, etc. and really can't afford to buy any more stuff.

Well first of all you will need a program to burn your games. DVD Decrypter works great (it's free). You will also need some good quality blank DVDs to burn your games on (Sony, Verbatim, Ritek, etc). Don't use cheap no name brands. After you have installed Decrypter, just stick in the original game and click Mode > ISO Read and then start and then when that is done pop out the original and stick in your blank media and goto Mode > ISO write and select the ISO you just created and click burn. Keep in mind that if you wnt to play your backups online its a little different method. This might seem a bit confusing at first but you will get the hang of it. If you have any questions just ask.

Also, keep in mind that you cannot play backups without a modchip or swapmagic discs and swaptools no matter how you burn the backups.

Well you can copy them just fine but the problem is getting them to play on your PS2. If your against a modchip you can use Swap Magic.

Swap Magic is a disk you put in your PS2 at first and then you swap out the disc for the game you are trying to load. You would also have to buy a fliptop or slidecard to use Swap Magic.

is that so you can swap the disks without the ps2 knowing.......cant you just open the ps2 and swap them if you have the kind of drive that comes out? ive done it before when i was fixing my ps2

No, you need the slidecard/fliptop/slimtools/whatever, because once the disc tray opens, the ps2 will recognise the backup as being just that, and give you the "not a valid ps2 disc" screen.

What i meant is that if you press eject, the ps2 autmotically cancels the startup process that swapmagic started, so it would recognise the backup as being an "illegal" copy. That's why you need a fliptop/slidecard *you could make a slidecard yourself, or use a very thin screwdriver or a knife to do the swap*

And no, you cannot play ps2 games, even on your computer, simply because :
A: the specs still aren't good enough
B: even if they where, there are basically no proper working emulators to work with

So, either get a modchip or swapmagic, or stick to playing with your original discs

It can be done, but why bother? just unclip the disctray cover, use a slidecard or w/e to open it, swap games, and yer done.
Though i'd advise to get a modchip, since more and more games need to be rebuilt before you can burn them for use with swapmagic
