Hi, any suggestions on the best way of backing up ps2 games? I'm reading some post's that say just use dvd decrypter then there are also some that say Alcohol 120% and others that say use a whole host of software in conjunction to get the best results. Any tips on the best methods so the games wont freeze and you get to play the full game and not only half or three quarters before it crashes. Thanks

any of those programs work. A lot of people use dvd decrytper because it free and easy. The main thing to remember is to use very good dvd media (taiyo yuden is said to be the best).

V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

RW discs are not known to work very well with PS2 Games.
I would stick with either +R or -R
I like the DVD-R myself in 8X speed (Philips brand)
Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Verbatim, TDK are some other good one's
With 8X speed start out with burning them at 4X
I like DVD Decrypter the best for the same reasons stated by
sly_61019 Free & Easy, and generally works every time.
Only time you will run into a problem is if the disc is DVD9 or has
junk/garbage files that need to be removed. Or the ISO needs to be rebuilt. I would say 95% of them will just be a strait up copy.

No DVD Decrypter is for DVD's only. But there are plenty of programs out here that can do CD's like CloneCD,Nero, and others

Has anyone had any luck with "game-cloner"? I emailed the service rep and he said I HAVE to use a mod chip. Is this true? Also when I make the image onto my computer, the game-cloner only lets me make .gcd or .nrg files. It does not let me make ISO files like I've been reading about on here. Any clarification??

And whatever you do, do not put those disc labels on them! I used Ritek G04's burned at 2x and they ruined my copies probably because of the added weight and uneveness.

chips are the best way to go, as long as you did your research and bought a good one like DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity

Yeah, I got the matrix infinity. Does this mean, from time to time, check the matrix infinity web site to see if there's any updates, if there is, burn the update to cd-r and after inserting it into the ps2, just follow the on screen instructions to update ? Should you download "every" update that comes out? Thanks.

You do not have to download every update, i would check it out from time to time. The usually only have 1-2 a year.
But updates are good to keep up to date and add new features.
Yes you just download the file, which in my case is a bin & cue file.
Burn the cue file to a CDR, then stick it in the PS2 and it will just ask you if you want to do it, you press X and away it goes
then all you have to do is reset the PS2 and the flash is all done.

Personally, if its a straight PS2 game copy, i will just use Nero.

I also bought fake Ritek G05 Dye DVD Media, didnt realise until i got them home, still use them - suprisingly good! Havent had a bad or coaster out of the 25 ive used! XD

Hi josue, "people trying to back up there games are wasting there time", that's ridiculus. Many of my friends haved there ps2 chipped and have hundreds of their backed up games. Some also have their xbox chipped aswell. No offense, but if you read one or two even of the stickied threads in the general ps2 discussion, it tells you exactly how to back up a DVD-9 onto a DVD-5 ;-0)

There are maybe 10-15 ps2 games on dvd9 discs, whatever book you read gave you totally wrong information. And as sandisk said, its not too hard to rip those games down to dvd5 anyways.
