Ok, I just bought a slim modded ps2, it works great, back ups play just like the original game. before, i used swap magic with my old ps2 and lots of the time the game would take forever to load, music skips, movies skip. but now, i love it. but I have a few questions about this and that. first being, is it normal for the slim ps2 to get rather warm, like is it because of a chip being installed or does the slim ps2 just get really warm, mod or not. 2nd question, what exactly is the Neo laser Fix or whatever, i cant find much on it. i bought the ps2 off an auction site, and in the description it said it had a neofix to prolong the laser or something. does that mean having a chip and/or using back up CDs make the laser work harder, or does it prolong the life of the laser in general wether the ps2 is modded or not. and the chip i got in it is a Matrix Infinity, is that a good chip? last question, i dont know if its because of the chip or what, but in the old bulky ps2s i could access stuff, i mean like when you dont put a cd in, you can boot up the ps2 and check out stuff like the memory card and see info on the ps2 etc. etc. i cant do that with me new slim ps2, is this because of the chip or is the new slim ps2 just like that, and if it is the chip, how can i turn on the ps2 and access the menu in it and stuff. well thats about it I guess, thank you for your time and for any help you can give.

Yea its pretty normal for the slims to get really hot. When shrinking it sony removed the fan so it has no cooling at all. As for Neo, a laser fix is used so the laser in slimlines dont burnout,as most slim versions have laser issues. Backups cause lots of stress on the machine so use as higher media as possible eg. Tuiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

Matrix Infinity is one of the best 2 chips in my book
And the slim will get hot either way, but a bit hotter with a chip.
The laser fix is REALLY a good idea to have in a slim, esecially with a chip.
You should still be able to access the memory card, even with a chip. I know i can with my DMS4 Pro because i transfered a lot of game saves to a ne 32MB card i bought
Should work the same unless there are settings on the chip proventing it.
Some settings on my chip use different boot modes that may cause it to skip some loading screens. You may want to search the net and find out how to access the settings menu for your chip and read up on the different boot modes it has.

Hey, Thanks for the replies. I accidentally found out how to get into the ps2's internal menu. and thanks for the info, im a little more relaxed now. I have known about the slim for a while but ive only vaguely seen it in pictures, and ive never used one. it surprised me a little when i found out how small it really was. but at least now i feel better. also, im still a little confused on what that neo fix is exactly, if anybody can explaine it in more detail i would appreciate it, but its not a big deal. im just still curious about it but i know enough to keep me happy, as long as it works and makes it last long, right. and a question, does anyone know of and thing that can be hooked up to the ps2 slim to cool it down some like a fan. well thats it for now, thank you for your time and help.

As for connecting a fan to the slim ps2, i havent seen any, but if you keep the console off any other things that produce heat (DVD player, Cable, etc) and slighty raised (so the bottom of the PS2 isnt touching the surface, or as little as possible) you should be fine.

I had a slim line ps2 for about 4 days. After the first 30 minutes of using it i was worried about the heat! - but then i got it swapped for my lovely Satin Silver Limited Ed. :D

@ Andrew691
Slimline PS2's do have a fan, they always have had one, otherwise it would have fried the CPU in a few seconds.
