I would like to know how to use a dvd drive (ide or scsi). If noone has been able to do this yet, is there is a pinout schematic that might allow someone to solder an ide ribbon (40 pin) to different locations on the motherboard that will work? I am so sick of the low quality ps2 laser eyes and slow load times. Thanks in advance

No it's not possible but you can load games using a hard drive that loads faster than any dvd drive.

ps3 with 20gb hard drive

xbox 360 premium edtion with vga/hd hook up to my dell 20.1 inch widescreen lcd.

White and black 1.5 psp's

I'll take this down WHEN micro$oft decides to stop being lazy and make the capcom fighting games backwards compatible with the 360 dammit!!!

I want a 16x instead of a 2x. FASTER LOAD TIMES AND NO FREEZING!

And how would you have a normal drive work without special ps2 firmware?
If you can answer that for me, i'll gladly give you soldering schematics
and the like, but since there's no way of getting that kind of firmware on a regular drive, you might as well have this thread closed, because it just ain't going to happen anytime soon

I can read (and copy) ps2 games from my lg dvd burner. Why do I need ps2 firmware to get the drive to read? They made a hard drive work on the thing, what's so different that a dvd drive wont work? Would a specific dvd model work if I soldered in a ide ribbon to the board? Something that would be compatible with the ps2 firmware.

When a computer posts and goes past the main cmos page, the computer will boot a set of drivers to make the cd/dvd rom drive work. PS2 has a similar process. I am just looking to get a drive that will be compatible with the "ps2 drivers" for the dvd rom drive.

You would think that someone could just remove a eeprom chip and read teh data and sell dvd drives that have had the eeprom's reprogramed of something like that. The laser in the ps2 is slow and crappy.

i'm trying to figure the same thing out. dvds quit playing on my ps2 and it's just been sitting in a corner... i'm trying to figure out a way eventually to have it work like a computer with an os and shit.

anyhow... right now i'm looking at my open ps2. i have also opened up some cdroms and dvd roms. it looks like there is a board in all cd drives that have 3-5 little ribbons connected to them, and this board has either the ide or scsi interface, power, etc.

it looks like those ribbons on the ps2 dvd rom connect directly to the mainboard of the ps2, instead of going through an interface board, to ide/scsi cable, to controller/mainboard like on a regular pc.

so i think the trick is to map out which wires do what on those smaller ribbons inside a dvd rom drive. i bet there is some model of dvd rom somewhere that would plug right in.

also, i read somewhere that the interface used to add a hard drive is a regular ide interface, meaning you can put a master and slave, and you can put a cd drive on there if you want also.

i hate these people on these threads that are always nay-saying. that shit gets old. they are too proud to say "that's too hard."

those guys need girlfriends.
