Hi everyone,
My friend has this ps2 slim v12 modified with Muppet Chip and Slim Console Fix for the lens.
On one day, he can play it more than 10hours straight, but on the next day, it would load halfway and then suddenly hang(black screen, cant be restarted). No response whatsover, even after switching the main power off and on, it would not display anything(although it can now be restarted, meaning displaying the corresponding red/green led light).
This happened once and he passed it to me. I checked it straight after (2hours from when it happened) and it works fine. I tested it for 2-3days and nothing happened.
I passed the set back to him, and 2-3days after, the problem repeated itself.
What could be the problem here? I've been thinking and cant find an answer.
Could it be an overheating issue? Please note that he plays it 10hours on one day, then leaves it overnight to play it the next day and the problem occurs.
Could it be the diode fix issue? I've never encountered this, but maybe someone can tell me.(Need to discharge current etc)
Hope someone can help me on this!
tia.

Could be a overheating problem, or it could be the laser fix proteting the ps2 from damage by turning it off when it requires to.

i agree, one of those 2 things mentioned are most likely the problem.
I took my PSTwo to a friends house a few summers ago, he had
no AC in the house so it was hot. After about 1 1/2hrs the PS2
just didn't want to load games at all. Sometimes it would just give a black screen.
We had to take a house fan and stick it in front of the PSTwo
so that it blew into the cooling vents, after that all was well for the next 3 hrs we played.

So is the FAT PS2 really more reliable then the SLIM PS2?
And on my previous post i meant protecting.

thanks for all the help! now im highly convinced that it is overheating issue.
that could be the only explanation why i didnt encounter this problem when i tested his set, because i only tested it max 2 hours straight.
And yes, the bigger fat ps2 are really more reliable than the slim ones.

well guys, i found out its the diode fix having problems. been playing it for 1 hour now since i took it out and works fine. im thinking the chip is either faulty(after long straight hours of playing with no rest) or the chip wasnt soldered on well. I think the J point is quite loose.
Anyways, how long can i play a ps2 slim without a diode fix? 3 hours with fan blowing it?

Its not the fan that needs blowning, the laser burns out, if you removed it, then it is not a matter of time b4 it burns out, its a matter of excess voltage or current

yes, i would put that fix back in if you have a slim.
The V12 needs it if you have a chip.
It may be causing you problems just due to the factor of overheating if you play for long periods of time.
You can try putting a fan in front of it to blow in the air vents
which will keep it cooler for longer

damn, but its really the diode fix that isnt working. whenever i try booting it up, it just hangs(as if it was auto shut down). I cannot reset or switch the ps2 off.
After removing the diode fix, the ps2 works fine till now. Anyone had their diode fix failing? This is quite a good diode fix chip, think its called 'XII' or something.

anyways the V3 is too old and is not worth keeping. The newer V12 costs less to replace a new laser too.

alright i soldered the diode fix back on.
its a Neo Fix Xii.
However, this time I did a better job , using the power point from Eurasia's diagram i think. about 1cm away from the GND point for the Xii.
It takes longer for the red led to light up now, and takes 2 resets to boot the ps2 slim. however this was mentioned in their diagram readme.txt. so im guessing this already works.
oh ya, the previous installation had the J point rather loose, so this time i made sure everything is ok .
will update if anything pops up, hopefully it was the installation gone wrong, NOT the chip lol.
no news is good news.
thanks for reading.

glad you got it worked out. If that fix fails you look for a
Comsoft V4 or Summone laser fix. Those 2 are used alot in the
premodded systems i have seen. About $10 USD
I have the Summone in mine and have had it at least a year now with no problems. But i hope you reinstalled works.

It's def an overheating issue. Something you have to keep in mind is that anything electronic WILL overheat if it is used enough. Or if it doesn't have sufficient cooling/ventilation. Here's a warning: Heating up a DVD, especially for dozens of hours, reduces the overall life of the media. By cooling both the electronics (with a house fan) and the DVD itself (leaving the fliptop cover slightly open or running the fan at an angle that it hits the top of the tray), it will cool the system & the DVD.
I have played several games for 10+ hours like this, using a house fan, and had no problems. After taking out the DVD it was almost cool to the touch. The bottom of the system was also cool.
Run a PS2 for 30 minutes without a fan....and tell me what happens :(

believe me i've tried running a game without a fan and diode fix. it gets real hot within 30mins.
somehow it feels cooler with the diode fix installed(maybe its my imagination but oh well, at least i know its working fine now), but now i also connect a usb cooling fan to it.
well im still testing it, still works fine. hopefully it stays this way.
