Hello fellows, I am very new to this PS2 world. I have bought the used fat PS2 with the hard drive. Now I want to know how to start using it and what can do with it ? I have tried reading the forums but there can not find the simple one for my level!!
1. A PS2 network adapter
2. Either a Sony PS2 HDD (Hard disk) or standard IDE HDD, HD loader reccomend between 40GB and 120GB. The PS2's won't use over 130GB
3. A copy of HD loader
How to put games on your harddrive:
Put the disk in and hit Install in HDLoader's menu or install directly to the HD when you put it in your PC with apps such as HDL_Dump or WinHIIP which is HIGHLY recommended to save the wear-n-tear on your PS2 Laser.
Modes:
Mode 1 = slower hdd access
Mode 2 = enable dvd9 flattened to dvd5 support
Mode 3 = flush hdloader from ps2 memory upon loading game.
HDloader will not play DVD9 games. It will play most CD based games.
If your HDloader crashes at the splash screen it is usually due to a HDD that is not compatible with the network adapter or incorrect jumper settings on the HDD.
The HDloader will be compatible with all mod chips except those that power down after the boot sequence.
You will not be able to play PS1 games with HDloader.
You will also not be able to play online games with HDloader due to the fact that when used it will disable the network adapter.
You can not use HDloadfer with cheat discs such as the Gameshark or AR Max
How to install HD loader to my memory card (DMS3 Devmode 1)
With this you will be able to boot up the games without having to insert the HDloader disc each time.
Obtain HLOADER.ELF of size = around 640KB
Now create a CDR containing the following
HDLOADER.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF
Using notepad edit SYSTEM.CNF, and copy and paste the following in:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1
VER = 1.0
VMODE = NTSC
INSTALL.CNF - Again edit this file with notepad and copy and paste the following in:
Then using your favourite burning software burn the disk in Mode2
Tip, if you'd like your PS2 to boot straight into HDloader rather than DMS's explorer, rename HDLOADER.ELF to BOOT.ELF along with all references to the file in SYSTEM.CNF and INSTALL.CNF
If you get a black screen after trying to boot up a game. highlight the game and press select on the controller. try each setting until the game loads. It will remember which setting you used the next time you boot that game so it should start right up.
One more question, Some one told me that instead of buying HD Loader , I better buy Mod chip so I can use the back up games also. With the HD Loader I can only load Original games and my hard drive is just 40 GB, so it will not take much games, Is he rignt ?My PS2 is V7 as the model # SCPH 39001. Please help me.
Sorry, I forgot to ask -which Mod chip will be best ? Is there any Mod chip which can work with Hard disk without buying HD Loader ! As the price of HD Loader is over $ 30 bucks, It will be better If I can save that and buy Mod chip which can work both ways.
I think he is right. Only a mod chip or some boot discs like
Swap Magic will load a back up copy.
If you get a DMS4 Pro chip then you will not even need the
HD Loader disc as it has it's own HD Loader program built right
into the ToxicOS that you flash the chip with.
You can read all about what that chip will do here
http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn/ they make the flashes for DMS4 chips that give the chip all it's great functions.
And unless you have EXPERT soldering skills i would not just buy one
thinking that you will be able to install it yourself.
You can of course pay a little more and get the DMS4 EZI Pro
which is a solderless chip that will do all the same things.
I just like the soldered in type myself but the choice is yours to
make.
Matrix Infinity is also good choice. But i have no idea if it has hard drive support.
While I was thinking to get modchip, it came to my mind that I also have network adoptor for on-line playing and if I get modchip (which you have suggested) then what will happen to network adoptor? will I be still able to use it?
Thanks for being so kind and answering my questions.
