My ps2 started actin really weird it plays my backups etc perfectly and ive cleaned the laser also but everytime i go to play a dvd film it doesnt spin its like it cant find the data to boot and just continues to look for it for all eternity.Anyone know whats wrong i can occasionaly get it working by pressing the reset button then it manages to kinda kick in and spin but it takes a good 20 attempts.

are you using good media?
Are you burning the movies at the slowest speed possible?
Is the program you are burning them with writing a lead in and lead out on the disc?
a good description of what process you use to burn them, what DVD's you use, and the speed of the DVD may help.
it may not be that the laser needs cleaning, but adjusting.
My suggestion is to save your PS2 laser life and use it just for games. Movies play back much better on a stand alone DVD player.

I'm having this EXACT same problem, only with the original games...which I guess in a sense are read as dvd's

there not backups they are proper dvd films which it isnt reading yet it plays my dvd backup games and real games etc it doesnt spin it just kinda clicks the disc round looking for data or so i think.
