Hey guys,
I've recently been buying faulty PS2's off the net and fixing them if i can to make a bit of profit. Anyway, i've come across this one auction for a PS2 that has a particularly wierd problem. Heres a quote from the auction:
Quote:
Broken PS2 console - Model SCPH30002
Was working fine until xmas day, then it seems the BIOS got corrupted. No idea how, and not 100% if this is the cause. Will boot, but loses all settings on every start, won't recognise discs or memory cards.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and how hard it would be to fix??
I thought that the settings might be reseting like this old computer i had was, but that was because the battery on the motherboard was dead - is there a battery in the PS2 to preserve CMOS settings and such??

I've just posted a question asking them whether it has ever been opened. I opened a V4 PS2 the other day there was a battery in plain view on the side of the disc tray. I dont know where the battery is on the V9/V10 so i guess ill have to find it. Im pretty sure this could be the cause of it losing all settings, but i dont get how it would stop it reading discs???? Would the battery going flat effect te laser? Maybe some software on the PS2 somehow dissapeared because of the battery??

the batt only holds the settings in the EEPROM, has nothing at all to do with it's ability to boot/read disks.
