i ave a dvd region x chip can i play dvd games. i can only play cd r games and i need to put in the region key. should i just get a new chip

Never heard of a DVD Region X chip
There is a program called DVD Region X for both PS2, and i have it on my Xbox
It is a region free movie player that will play movies from any region and in many more formats that the original player would.

when you boot up the PS2, is there nything written under
the Playstation logo?
Like a DMS4 chip usually says Toxic or has a white skull
a Matrix Infinity usually says something as well.
Unless that feature is disabled it should say something.
If not the only real way to tell is to open the PS2, find
the chip and write down everything you can see on the chip.
post that up and someone will know. But that is a last resort as
opening up the PS2 can be risky if you are not extremely careful and know what your doing. the ribbon cables come out quite easily.

Or just ask the person who did it, or you bought it from.
