I just installed a DMS4 EZI PRO and the chip seems to be working right (I can get it disabled by pressing [ ] at boot up) I know this doesn't mean it's working quite yet, but I know it's responding.

Since everything's working fine I decide to try to boot a game. NO matter what disc I put in it gives a disc read error. Since I tested multiple types of media I pretty much knew it was a hardware issue (despite the loud clicking).

So, when I put a disc in, you can hear it try to read the disc, then it makes a loud click, followed by (usually) 2 more. Then it says disc read error.

At first I was thinking I knocked one of the connections loose, but I reconnected the dvd-rom to motherboard connection a few times, I know it's not that. Anyone have a clue what it could be making these disc read errors and the clicking?

I already tried re-greasing the rods in the dvd-rom that keeps the laser alligned.

Thanks in advance for the help.

It's a version 7 PS2. Umm, I tried retail and burnt dvds, both + and - with the burnt ones and on multiple speeds. I tried multiple games. I tried music cd's and it seems when I put in a cd it isn't as loud, but there's still clicking and the DRE's.

Does it have trouble booting original games? Or is it just copies. The clicking sound is usually caused by the laser having trouble focussing on the disc, as it will move up to try and read the disc and will tap into it. This could be the result of a modchipping goinf bad, e.g some shorts being created by the solder, or the LA chip going bad. You have a V7 though, so the latter is unlikely. I would say there i a short somewhere and that is causing troubles.
