My friend's friend just left the country and left behind a crapload of things and along with all that stuff was a scph-30000 PS2 that was modified and she doesn't have any use for it so its mine now.
Only thing is that I dunno what kind of mod it uses nor whats wrong with it. I'm thnking that its a swap method chip(along with some games, it came with an Action Replay disc and some other DVD which I guess has a big TOC in it).
The problem with the the PS2 is:
Does not read
-PS2 Backups and Original games
-PSone backup games
Reads
-PS1 Original games
-Any DVD movies(backup and originals)
I know a place in my area that will do installation for a good price but I'm worried about the condition of the PS2 which I doubt replacing the chip will fix it...I've tried doing a laser adjaustment(http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars)and there's no difference.
ahhh i think i know what Happed ere It does Happen Sometime
I think my dad told me when he got his PS2 Chipped that it can or will break like the Laser On the PS2 sumfing to do with that and you need to get it replaced im not quite sure but yer should go see someone who Fixes PS2 or Try Googling it!
modchip will not "break your laser"
they have been known to burn out lasers in the V12 PSTwo
slimline, but they had problems and were burning out without
any modchips too.
It may just be that the laser is worn out.
Have you tried cleaning the laser?
I know you say you tried adjusting it. But did you do it correctly?
That is a long process. You have to turn it one notch at a time and test it after each turn, then keep doing it until it reads your PS2 originals. If you did and had no luck then cleaning it is about the only thing i can think of other than replacing it. But if it plays movies and PS1 just fine i would not think it was bad.
Hmmm...Do PS2 lasers in general expensive? Since I can get the modchip + installation done for $60, I wonder if I could just buy a laser and hope that the guy will include it in with installation...
Anyway back to my last resorts before rechipping, repairing the PS2, what should I use to clean the laser? And about adjusting the gear, I turned it every 4 notches, I should just do it one at a time. And if I know DVD movies and PSone original games work, should I just go ahead of pop in my PS2 original game to test/adjust the laser? The only game I have is MGS3 and I dunno if its a DVD9 disc.
One last thing, how can I tell which mod chip I have, the only thing I can say is that its a swap mod which came with the two discs that I mentioned in the my first post and basically the last instructions I was told was:
-load AR2 into PS2
-when AR2 is loaded up, insert the black disc
-start game without codes
-insert and choice of game when the tray pops out then close it and press X.
