I have a new chipped PS2 slim. I played it for about 4 hours then the lens went out. Bought new one in replace of the burnt one. After the new lens was installed it would not read backup disc anymore. Whenever I insert a backup disc, the unit shuts off. It won't read DVD either. It keeps showing a message through the browser menu saying: Disc could not be read. Not only that in the begining of the screen after PS2's powered up, the colorful orbs floating around just froze. Browser and System Configuration are still accessible though. The lens are PVR-802W. The seller said it is compatible. I might have installed it wrong. Does anyone know why it's doing that? Please help and thanks.

you must use the same type laser unit you took out or you have to flash the EEPROM with lenschange prior to the swap, a bit hard to do with a defective lens :)

PS2 cannot be flashed because chip is a clone. And what was it you said about EEPROM? What is a EEPROM? I installed two lens after the original burnt. Both lens were same as original lens (PVR-802W). First lens installed read only original PSX games. Did not read PS2, DVD's, and PSX backups. Took it out and installed second lens. It works but now only reads PS2 CD and DVD, not PSX games (original or backup). Any solution? I hope this is a common problem with modded/non modded PS2 that can be fixed. Thanks all.

the EEPROM is an Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory chip that stores the driver for the laser unit, different lasers have to have different drivers and these drivers have to be flashed prior to the laser swap.

what you have said is an indication that the laser is out of adjustment, either physically or electrically. there are 'how to' threads on adjusting both, try a google search and make sure you fully understand what it is your doing prior to doing any adjustments, you can fix it with these and you can make it never work again as well.
