My ps2 wouldn't load any games but instead all i hear is the sound of the laser arm grinding with the gear. I don't know what caused it. Has anyone got this problem that could help me out? Please?

At first I figured it's probably the laser arm, the white piece that sits on top of the gear. I replaced it, no luck. So I thought it might be the gear itself, replaced it, didn't work. I also changed replace a brand new laser, and that didn't work. So I finally replace the cable that connected the laser to the motherboard, and again, that didn't work either. I ran out of idea except 1 last option. Replace the motherboard? One thing I noticed was that the laser didn't move at all when I pressed the power on button.

I'm in desperate need of help. Could someone please? Thanks in advance.

Are u sure the actual drive is clean, and no obstacle is blocking any of the gears.

For me, the disc tray was not going in as far as it should be. So take a look at that. Once I readjusted it, I no longer have any grinding sounds

nope. I'm still waiting to get the laser arm replacement. Like I said, I cleaned the gear, the laser arm, and also put some grease on the laser guide bar to help make it move smoother, but none of those works. I marked where the laser was stationed and popped in a disc, it makes the grinding noise. I pressed eject and looked at the laser, it's still sitting at the same place. It didn't move at all.

I did what you guys had suggested. And apparently, nuthing was in the way.
