i have a v14 ps2 and i know that everyone is saying that after the v12 sony fixed the laser problem.but i have a v14 scph75001 and i havent modded it yet but when i played a cd for no more than 5 mins , the thing got really hot.Or atleast i thought it got hot since my v7 never even got a lil warm.i was wondering if it would be smart to use a laser fix when i mod it or if this heat is normal and i'm just over-reacting??Also, is there like a usb fan available for the ps2? because i heard there was but never saw it on any of the huge electronic websites.

the heat has nothing to do with the laser fix. The laser fix stops the laser from burning out on you. and yes if you get a mod chip you might as well get a good laser fix too just to be safe. Although you should not need it.
The heat is due to the unit being so small you can feel all the heat that you couldn't in the older version. Pluse the air flow is not as good. standing it up vertical helps a little as less surface area is touching anything. and pointing a small house fan at the unit can also help.
