Hi all
I have a rather clumsy friend who has asked me to look at his ps2 ( i have successfully repaired a couple already) who claims to have "dropped" his ps2 and is now getting a disk read error. i have opened it up and firstly checked all the connections etc , but there appears to be no physical damage inside at all ( other then the eject button falling off!!) i have tried adjusting the laser lens angle up and down using both the cogs and then the screw on the laser to no avail. (I also cleaned the lens )it is not making any loud clicking noises or anything . Can anyone suggest anything else to check as i am reluctant to start messing with the pots cos the fact it was dropped seems to suggest the problem will be physical rather then electrical. Thanks for any help

is it a definate disk red error or a no data???

the DRE means your laser is giving information but unreadable, this is an adjustment problem, either physical or electrical. the no data is a failed laser or chip.

hey blacky, have you successfully fixed a DRE on a PS2 w/ 2 white cogs? If so....how the hell did you do it? Or...since i am a dumbass and tried to fix it myself, and did NOT mark the original location, do you know the default settings?
