booting backup trouble

hey, i'm wondering if anyone can help me. I read a couple threads about ar max and swap magic to boot a backup. I can't boot my backup for some reason with cheats. My screen gets black and the cd inside isn't reading. Btw i'm using backup ar max. Heres what i did

1)insert the Swap Magic 3.6 plus Cd version
2)swap with ar max backup
3)load codelist with usb stick(after codes done loading i removed usb)
4)picked my codes and start games with code
5)insert the Swap Magic 3.6 plus DVD version
6)swap with backup

after that i get a blank black screen
hope someone can help. Thanks =]
