I've just installed a Modbo 2.0 modchip in to my ps2 version 4 with bios gap,and it's a PAL. I'm just getting the red screen when I use my back up disc's, when I try to use a different region dvd that does not work either. I have checked all my connections and they are fine I have even tried it with the G & H wire installed still now joy. It seems to me as if the chip is not working, I've tried the chip in version 7 and is ok so I know the chips alright. Does anyone know how I can fix this or simply does the modbo 2.0 not work on a version 4.

can't say for sure about the Modbo chips, i only install top quality chips, but a red screen is an indication of a corrupted flash.

Yeah you get what you pay for. What's the Media ID of the discs you're using?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

if the chip is alright, could be that the installation on the v4 went wrong.

I've checked the installation with my multimeter and it's ok, I'm going to try the chip in a V3 and see if that is any different, as to the type of media I have tried it with both different +'s and -'s and still the same. The only thing I can do now is to try another chip does anyone recommend any.

That's not what I asked. I asked for the Media ID. You'd be amazed how often this a cheap media problem. Usually the hardware is the least likely cause. Once you eliminate everything else, then it could be the hardware. Reread my post and post the Media ID.

Sorry not read properly, On one of the Disk's it's RitekG05 Which is a - and the other one is Ritek R03. I've used the program you said but the disk I.d is different to that on the disk. Don't know if that helps, these games work on a version 7 ps2 but not the v4 with Modbo2 in.

I have a couple games backed up on RitekG05 that work okay. I can't gauruntee it's not the media. But since it works in your v.7, it could be a compatibility issue. According to this: http://www.modsupplier.com/catalog/ps2-modbo-v20-p-155.html It's compatible with v.1-12 PS2's from all regions. I can't give soldering advice, I know little about it. It seems that you know what you're doing, as you installed the chip in two different PS2's and verified it works in the v.7. Sorry I know this isn't much help. You could try better media, but I'm not sure it would make much difference. It's probably a minor issue with your v.4 mobo. Couldn't you just leave it in your v.7? If you chip any PS2's in the future, spend a little more on a DMS 4 Pro SE or Matrix Infinity.

if you have genuine Ritek GO5s (Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:RITEKG05]) it's not a disk quality issue. nor a compatibility issue, these disks work in V1-V16 no problems.

I beg to differ KC, there have been plenty of issues with RitekG05. It's a decent media, but not on par with TY, Verb's, the High Grade MIJ Maxell's, or MIJ Sony's. The printable ones have gone south on some pretty knowledgeable burn enthusiaists. Ritek is second class media by any measure. I do agree that in this instance it's not the media, as the Modbo 2.0 works fine in his v.7. But to suggest that because he's using RitekG05 the issue couldn't be the media, that simply doesn't jive with my own personal experiences and those on AD. I always recommend using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
