Hi, I bought a 10 pack of LED lights and I would like to put them in my v7 Chubby PS2 because I have a clear case. What points would I need for the power of the LED lights? Pictures would EXTREMELY help.

what are the values of your current limiting resistors?

For the L.E.D.s or something in the PS2?

you can put LEDs in anything that supplies them with a sufficient drive voltage. the factor is the current limiting, each LED will drop on average 0.7v and you have to limit the current through them based on the individual LED specks. most have a forward continuous current of 20 ma and a max of 50 ma you have to size the current limiting resistors to match those ranges. given the size of the current limiting resistors you can take an 'on average' to guess the voltage they are intended to be used with (by determining circuit current) then you'll know what voltage level your looking for on the PS2 to attach to for power.

allot of folks think they can just hook one up across the CD/DVD drive motor and they'll get a light any time the drive is accessed but they fail to put any sort of limiting on the LED and they in essence short the drive motors power burning out the mobo, then wonder why their little lights didn't work and when they removed them the PS2 doesn't work anymore.

... so I shouldn't put LED's in my PS2 cuz it will kill my System?
My LEDs have numbers on the back

Voltage AC DC
6V 100OHMS 220OHMS
12V 330OHMS 680OHMS
28V 750OHMS 1500OHMS

So will these be ok and can i put them in by this power point:
http://teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?p=68#68

The brand are "Linrose Super Brite LED" from Frys like http://shop3.outpost.com/product/442316?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

the Ω is the size resistor you should use with the voltage indicated. your PS2 has a 3.3v a 5v and a 12v source all filtered DC you can tap into off the power supply board (fat consoles) the 12v would be the preferred as there is less chance of noise introduction to system components.

keep in mind that adding the LEDs in series v/s parallel has a bearing on the current limiting resistance used and dont overload the power supply by getting carried away with it.

almost forgot, YES, you can kill your system adding LEDs to it if you do not know what your doing. LEDs aren't like a incandescent bulb, they will not take full line voltage across them, they'll only drop their forward bias voltage which is usually 0.7v, all other voltage has to drop across the limiting resister therefore the resister has to be sized in Ω value to correctly set the circuit current and in watt size to match power in the circuit.

and at the same time your stealing power, you have to keep the power consumption down to the allowable margin or you'll start under powering the PS2 components and they'll overheat/crash causing undesirable results.

So where can I apply these LED (I just want to put like 4 or 5 in) without harming my PS2.

... I really have no idea my Dad is going to put them in. I want them in all 4 courners of the PS2 and in the middle near the Heatsink. I think he said he needed a restitor... hes some of the stuff on the back of the case for the LED's

with a single resister they'll need to be in series and a 200-250 Ω resister across the 12v points on the power supply (same as in the link above) myself I'd get a 100-300 Ω range rheostat and use it to adjust the intensity.

a 200-250 Ω resister or a rheostat of similar value if you want to be able to adjust the intensity.
