...I ran into problems. I disassemble the thing no problem and open the DVD drive to expose the underneath but to my horror i found that im missing the little white turning gear to adjust the angle of the lense.

Could it be that my modem PS2 adjusts the angle some other way or is the gear simply gone (i bought the PS2 2nd hand)?

This a pic of my opened up PS2..

Cheers.

what version is the ps2? on version 4 its plain as day to see, but on other version, its a little tricky to find it. so tell what version you have, and we'll go from there

Thanks a lot guys. I've twiddled with the two gears but nothing actually seems to change. Should something physically shift when i turn the gears?

Thanks

hey Mik3h. i checked that out yesterday....it only shows a PS2 with one gear. Does it matter if there are 2?

Nah it shouldn't matter. Same principles though..! Turn them until the laser drops all the way (you will know) then basically work up from there.

Sounds like the laser needs coils and a new diode fitted in.. the price on the site is pretty good.. I'm in UK.. I get my local store to do it.
