Ok I believe I have the V10 ps2, the bigger one ( I will confirm this soon) and i Had a magicV modchip installed about 2.5 years ago. The person that installed it for me said it was a magicV but I never open the ps2 and really checked. Ok my issue is, uptil about last week it was working perfectly fine but now it wont play backups. However, i tried a backup movie that I have and it seemed to work fine. So iam not sure what the problem is, can any1 help? Is my chip done for? And what about the movie, could it be the media iam using?

your laser is officially screwed like mine try putting your backupin then flip over the ps2 so the ps2 sign is facing the ground if that makes it work your laser is dead but if not go to http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars adn follow along the bottom

your laser isn't dead, dead lasers do nothing at all, they give 'No Data' messages. yours could be in need of cleaning or adjusting. if you play the console in the vertical position it requires more laser coil voltage to read the disks, if you have it vertical lay it flat this will help.

also if it is a V10 it should of had a Romeo mod installed with the chip, did the modder do this?

hey kc, ya i play it flat and ive had it flat ever since i got it. And ok ill get a lens cleaner and clean it. and what sa romeo mod?

the romeo mod removes the 12v drive voltage to the LA chip and replaces it with 5v, this prevents laser burn out when you use a low quality disk or a scratched one.
