Can i replace swap over lasers from different version PS2s?

My ps2 has a dodgy laser (i think) but a mate of mine has given me his old PS2 that has various problems however, the laser works fine. Can i take his laser out of his version 3 (UK SCHP-30003) and put it in my version 7/8 (UK SCHP-39003)?

noooooooo but read on the side if the laser says khs 400c if it says that then your fine if it doesnt then leave it alone but what are the version 3 problems maybe I could give you some tips

The dvd drive is knackered. Its missing loads of screws and such. You'll just have to take my word for it thats knackered :)

I want to get my v7/8 working as its chipped so its the only one i'd want to play.
