I'm also having troubles getting backups to work!

I own a debugging station, also known as a Test box ps2 which plays burnt ps1 games but has never been able to play a burnt ps2 game. It plays original games fine. When backing up a ps2 game I get the "red screen of death" ie, 'please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disk.' I've tried every available guide online to backup the disk and have used several of the most highly recommended media, both + and - but have been completely unable to get anything out of it. All the forums that deal with this message say its a problem with the mod chip or the media but it isn't the mod chip because there is no mod chip in a test box, they're MADE to run burnt disks and it isnt the media because i've tried heaps of the best. ANY advice would be really appreciated.

@ halo13 The PS2 can't handle DVD's from other regions. It's DVD Software won't allow it. Even a modded PS2 that is supposedly "region free" can't play DVD's from other regions. Your best bet is a Dual Format DVD player.

@ mannamoo I'm not familiar with the test box you're speaking of. What "quality" media have you tryed?

if you have Nero you can make a back up and let Nero transcode it to NTSC format. Then you should be able to play it on your PS2.
There is also a program called DVDRegionX that may work for you. It is a region free player. I have it on my Xbox and it will play either format. I know they make it for Ps2 as well but i have not yet tried it.
