I need help. I bought a mod chip for my ps2 based off of the model # on the back. I bought the ps2 used and when I dissassembled it to install the mod-chip nothing was as the pics showed. When I called the guy I bought the ps2 from he told me he had swapped the model # from an older one and had no way of telling me what the "newer" model # I actually have might be. So here I am with a torn apart ps2 and no usual method of I.D.ing it. Does anyone know if there is any version identification located on the circut board itself? Please help.

I think there is a tag with some numbers on it. Call Sony and maybee they might be able to tell you what model number you have with the numbers on the back.

If you dont have the screw in the expansion slot you have an older V1-V4 PS2 board.

models are different by versions of motherboards, all motherboards have the model number printed on them, look at the model number and you can easily determine which model you have with that information.

Honestly I have reservations about contacting Sony for help. I have no plans of doing anything illegal but Sony is the "Piracy Police".

I have the screw but it's my understanding that the versions go all the way up to 14. Although having the screw does eliminate 4 versions there's still quite a few to choose from.

there are currently 16 versions, and starting with version 12 they went to slim, so you've now knocked it down to a V5-V10, (not at all likely you have a V11) the mobo printed version is your only sure fire way to know which.

That's exactly what I'm looking for KC. Do you know where the model #'s are typically found on the motherboard?
