You seem to have only read half my post. They cannot afford to keep changing as it is very expensive, and is not cost effective for them.

They have been doing this for years, about twice a year. New fixes come out within days of them changing their ECM. They cannot afford to change any more often.

More speculation, its more to do with the emulation method not which boxes can or cannot handle N1/N2. Open source is fixed quicker as its open to the community, closed source is open to a point.

EDIT: Morning Eva is see you are getting into ECMs have to watch your back now lol.

Thanks and I hope you are right. Time will tell if this will not be a regular thing.

Still had a late enough one Eva, but good to see things are coming back to some sort of normality. The Replay though not done yet should be along soon enough.

Yeah, i had to ask creaky to close the new replay thread i started, even though i had put no code requests in the title and in the first post they were ignoring it.

No biggie, you can just start a new one from scratch when the fix comes out. :)

How do you know how much it costs the Cable Company to roll the keys and have you any evidence of this?

Not really a valid question and this thread has gone on enough with rife speculation. If you want something done it costs money, same for them simple as that.

Hi Scouser.

I am not speculating, I am asking for facts!

It seems that there are a lot of speculators posting and not having any factual evidence to support their claims.
Of course it costs them money to code change but how much?

I seem to be asking for the earth here lol.

No offence intended.

Your not asking for the Earth.........the question is why are you asking, its not of any consequence to this matter? If you what to know, how, why, by whom, how much, its not really applicable to ask any member here these queries. No one will tell you this even if they work for the CC.

I have a lot of facts, but they are of no value here on an open forum. No offence intended........but I call that common sense.

Another one for my Xmas card list I see, I have a clue, simple equation is your the one asking the questions.

I am the one trying to give an answer.......between the lines you will see it, but if I have to explain it to you then it will take you awhile to comprehend it. Better of starting off with something easy and work your way up bit by bit, that or Google is a big place and a better place to start.

Why are you being rude to people that are here to help? If it wasn't for people like scouser and the others there wouldn't be any fixes.

No offence intended, but nobody is going to tell you anything confidential. They don't know you and you have not proved anything to anyone. Nobody is going to stick their neck out to satisfy your idle curiosity.

Apologies if I have offended anyone.

I am trying to ascertain whether this is a flash in the pan or is it new tactics. All through this thread there has been only opinions (and some peurile abuse) and very little hard evidence from anyone.

As no one can help answer this (rumours and opinions are no good) I shall not take delivery of a new box.

Thanks for all useful replies.

You don't seem to be able to accept what you are being told. So let me put it in layman's terms.

The keys roll almost every day as normal, they have done since Nagra was cracked if not before. They will continue to roll. Once you have firmware that comprehends the emu data it is receiving then it auto updates and you barely notice it happening as usual. Every 6 months or so the cable company has a push to disrupt illegal boxes and in a bid to protect their interests they alter the EMU method so that the box will not auto update any more. This has happened before and will happen again. So you ask if it will be regular then the answer is yes. Just how regular depends upon how often the CC believes it is cost effective enough to implement changes ( don't ask how much it costs, the plain fact is it is an operation that takes man hours and costs extra above their daily operating costs )

so understand this in conclusion. Keys always roll. Encryption always changes. Up to now the community always finds a way to continue.
You clearly have no idea of even the basics of the things involved here so it would be best to not make wild assumptions then try to dress them up as some kind of 'insight'.
All you need to know is that until there are massive changes implemented by NTL in the way that they deliver their content and encryption that there will be someone clever enough to allow you to continue being a thief.

NTL did not sell to anyone. They are still NTL mergered with Telewest. They just changed their name.

They are still 625Bn pounds in debt with 1.25Bn of that due in 2014. Going by the current financial climate and that most of that debt is owed to banks that are in trouble I can't see NTL making it to 2014. The problem is who apart from the governmemt or Sky could buy and service that debt? I doubt the government would or could and Sky are not allowed to under current monopolies law.

I pay XL TV with sports and movies, XL BB and a full phone package here. I use a digibox in the bedroom and here in my office. I'm fully aware that I'm doing so illegally and I don't pay the rental that VM would charge me for more boxes. However I pay a lot more than many here.

Sir Richard Branson, is Virgin Media?s biggest shareholder with more than 50 percent of the shares therefore he is the owner and not NTL

Same for me. The firmware update seemed fine, everything was back to normal but today it's all gone again. Very painful. Anyone got any ideas why? The firmware I used was version 2.00. Is there a newer one? Thanks.

Nonsense. He's not even on the board. He received a large share equity as part payment for his stake in Virgin Mobile which the Virgin Group sold ( along with the lease to the name Virginmedia ) to NTL at the time of the Telewest merger.

Virgin Entertainment Investment Holdings Ltd. hold 10.4% of the Virgin Media company with the other majority shareholder being the Royal Bank of Canada holding just the same. the rest of the company is owned by capital investment firms.

I don't mind people telling me when I'm wrong. But plucking nonsense out of the air and using it to make me out to be a liar is a bit harsh.

Most of us do pay for the smallest offer on virgin right?

i do... so if half of all us box users pay for small..why do all this?.. i here not many would pay for any tv.. and if they did they would move to sky..
(if this box was not out i would go to sky allso)

the boxes go down there will be more.. they cant stop it at all..
