dvd-r plays dvd-rw doesn't ?

I have no problems with dvd-r media, using my pc equipped with LG gsa-4082b multi drive. Commercial dvd's play ok and all other cd media burns and plays ok.

When i use dvd-rw media, the pc freezes. The dvd-rw (and the dvd-r) disks are recorded on via a jvc vhs/dvd burner/player.... model DR MV1. NOTE..... I am, of course, finalising disks prior to attempting work on the pc unit.

I had the idea that if i liked something burnt onto a dvd-rw, I could transfer it to a dvd-r as a permanent record, then re-format the dvd-rw disk for future use.

The LG multi drive pc dvd unit is not much use if i cannot copy from one disk to another.

Literature on both units states that they both recognise the media involved.

any thoughts.
