As soon as it was clear that Apple would be introducing a new cheaper iPhone, and this would be months before the actual announcement, people were quick to call it the next big thing.

How could they fail with a $400 phone for only $1000? Maybe they need bigger logos? Brighter LED's in the logo's? Clearly the hardware quality, repair issues, anti-consumer practices, and insane price are not to blame since people are just buying the logo anyway. Maybe a projector for the logo...then it could be really big!

Are we talking about Samsung or Apple?
The XR isn't a $1000 either, which is why analysts felt it would be Apple's most popular as it combines tech from the recent X refresh and XS update at a lower cost.
Let's not pretend that smartphones have suddenly become affordable. I believe that's the real trend here that Apple and others have no more gimmicks to sell us as there's very little innovation between each iteration of these devices, no matter who the manufacturer is.
