I am having great problems getting x copy to work.
What I am doing: I'm running XP Professional and have already removed a conflicting DLA. I am running the computer in "Diagnostic startup" with NOTHING checked for autostart. Other than X copy, the only software is what came with the computer (XP, MS Works).
What happens: The disc burns and I get a "successful burn" message. However, discs have numerous freezing problems when played back (either on computer, on standard dvd players). (Both players are compatable with DVD+RW discs, which is what I am using.

What brand of media are you using? Is your burners firmware up to date? Also, which XCopy product and which version?

We also have an XCopy forum:

The media is DVD+RW discs.
Firmware - I don't know. It is a new computer (from Dell) and straight out of the box, so I would hope that everything is up to date. How do I tell?
I have dvd-x-copy gold and the problem happens with both x-copy and x-xopy express.

That is the type ... What brand? Also RW's are good to test on, but some of standalone players don't play RW's.

Well you have to find out :) The firmware is what makes your drive compatible with the various media out there. You can start by finding out which burner you have. Right click "my computer", then click properties -> click "hardware" tab, then device manager -> click the "+" next to dvd/cd roms ... now what are the names for the device(s).

Also did you run Windows Update? If not, you need to.

There are a few other things you can do, but get those out of the way first :)

Well there is no firmware update for your burner.
DVW58E (8x DVD+R / +RW)
There are no firmware updates available for this drive. Please check this site periodically for future updates.

You may have only gotten the critical updates. Click "start", then Windows update.

Never heard of em .... but they should work for testing purposes.

Now are you using a bought version of XCopy? If so, which product and what version?

Yes, I bought it at a store. I got "DVD-X-Copy Gold." The version number is 3.0.2. It contains both X-copy and X-copy express. The freezing problem occurs on BOTH programs.

Freezing, pixaling, and stutters are all 99.99% media brand related. I would suggest getting Ritek (Ridata) brand. These can be had on-line very cheap in all formats. Newegg.com has a special that ends today on +R at 31.99 for 100 with .99 shipping.(10.00 mail in rebate)

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?DEPA=0&description=17-132-344&ATT=CD+DVD+R+RW+Media&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r

.33 a disk is pretty hard to beat!
