need help! whenever i use bittorrent the light is always yellow and my downloads are like 1-20KB/s! I'm guessing thats slow, occasionally for small things i can get like 40KB/s. Recently though i just bought this new wireless router (D-link) and i think i have 3Com Modem. Now when i try to download things off bittorrent like when i start my modem makes this noise and it like restarts itself and it sucks cuz like my internet doesnt' work then it works again. Does anybody know how to make my downloads faster and explain why my modem keeps on restarting?

Call your ISP on the modem problems.

As for the BT problems, I can offer some help =)

Questions:

1. What is your actual advertised download/upload speed?

2. Have you ever tried disabling the router firewall, or enabling DMZ on the router firewall?

Recommendations:

I would recommend using the Azureus BT Client as it does a check to see if your internet settings are properly configured for maximal speed. Also, it's a very fast client.

well i think i might have solved my router problem i think i just updated the firmware but i've downloaded that Azureus BT Client. I dont' know how to check my internet settings... I also checked about enabling that DMZ. It says i should only enable DMZ if its my last resort because it makes my computer more vulnerable?

Yes it does, but I've had my DMZ enabled for the last 8 months and I haven't been hacked or anything. And I still regulary piss people off.... so my advice is "Don't worry about enabling DMZ"

But then, I do have PeerGuardian installed.

ö

^ That's my new version of :0 btw

There is one last thing you could do. When you're download files, disable Peer Guardian as WELL as DMZ, but as soon as you finish enable Peer Guardian.

P.S. That file maybe going so slow because it takes 5 minutes - 10 minutes for Azureus to establish a good and stable speed for some files. Also, it may be because that file is really unpopular...
