I used BTs and it's ok.. but the speed keeps on jumping from 10kb/sec to 30 kb/sec on average DVDRs (not so popular) but mostly it's 15 kb /sec
Is there a place to download DVDRs at constant 50 kb/sec or more??
any ideas about improving BT if not?? I am using Azureus..

Talk of piracy is not allowed.... maybe we should start IP banning people :\

I have a problem with that. You download a movie at 15kb/s and that would take a minimum of three days im guessing, when you have the original??? riteeeee the point of that is? waste of time and is really pointless when it takes a max of 2 hours to backup your dvd.

Look, yazer, the real point we're all trying to make is, STFU about DVD-Rs. No piracy, and don't try and talk your way out of it.
So anyway, about your connection:-
1. What is your actual advertised download/upload speed?
2. Do you have a firewall? If you're using Azureus, when it did the installation check you didn't get any error messages did you?

guys, I back my DVDs but it's painful.. I am not good at it. I lose a menu or produce a bad quality DVDR at the end.. So downloading them is easier for me (some times). I am not eager to get them, so I don't mind to wait for 2 days..
but, Why wait if I can download at 50 kb/ sec and get it in 1 or 2 days max instead of 5 days!!!
my connection is 512/128
actual is download: 50 kb /sec - upload: 12 kb /sec (average)
when I azureus, any popular movie is downloaded at 45 kb /sec or so.. so, it's working well.. ports are forwarded, things are ok.
With DVDRs I am usually downloading at 25-27 kb/sec.. it jumps to 30 or 35.. then back to 25.. sometimes 15..
so, why does it keep jumping like that? why doesn't it maintain a speed?

right now I am downloading Jurassic Park..
speed is 23-26 kb/sec
but, u having 512 kbit/sec upload makes ur chance much better... (BT anti-leech mechanism)
And, for the guy who was telling me no piracy, I noticed PS2 game copying and modchips usage topics... So, why DVDR is bad and every other thing ok?... just a question though I said already I own wt I download...

You're both very ignorant.
DVD-Rs have less people uploading them. Because they all know how to "BACKUP" their own damn DVD-Rs.

Quote: Case: Pirated material, such as serial numbers and direct links to pirated, copyrighted material (including direct links to torrent files and ed2k links). PROHIBITED
Case: Technical, in depth discussion about copy protection circumvention (i.e. cracking). PROHIBITED
Case: Discussion about pirated content and piracy, such as converting (downloaded) video and/or audio files to DVD/AudioCD/whatever format. PERMITTED
Case: Discussion about copy protection circumvention in general (extracting encrypted content, such as DVD movies, compact discs, copy protected console and computer software, using existing software). PERMITTED
Case: Links to sites offering possibly pirated content (including torrent files and ed2k links). PERMITTED
The third which is labelled as PERMITTED is what this thread falls into. Therefore there have been no breach of rules. These "cases" were presented by Ketola (Admin) in his forum piracy rule reviews in the following link
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/101550
Basically, downloading DVD-R's for a backup, or just downloading it to keep is not illegal in some countries in the world, such as Finland, where Afterdawn Ltd. is based. Thats just an example of why this type of discussion is permitted.
However, links directly to DVD-R files through eD2K, BT, FTP etc. to a pirated movie is PROHIBITED :-) So keep the thread clean!

Sorry about that.... =) Hope you'll forgive me!
Anyway, remember if you have a load of peers, and they all have different upload speeds, so when one peer goes offline, and he was uploading at like 20kbs to you, you get a huge speed decrease, but overtime it will cover up. Or maybe, you'll suddenly get another peer that is uploading to you at 50kbs!
If I were you, I wouldn't worry about the actual speed at the time, only the speed over a set period of time, as that tends to be a much better indicator.

A main problem with Bit Torrent now is leechers! The best thing to do is to use some form of anti-leecher protection for BT. I have never used one since i'm not a big BT user but if you can find one I would definately recommend it!
As for changes in download speed. Some Problems may be your own ISP, and may not even be their fault. Line quality is always an issue with broadband. But as P2P grows ISP's have found their services are being pounded by users. Some of these ISP's then have to pay extra costs and might have to downgrade services to keep their profits coming in! But as fibre optic lines are going down these problems will soon be over and we can all enjoy MUCH faster speeds online!

Well that's probably because you clicked randomly on files that said "Free Viruses here!" =P
Or maybe you didn't have an AV program...

eD2K (Overnet, eMule, eDonkey2000 etc.)
Pros:
Has very very rare files
Massive resources supported by eD2K linking sites
Probably the biggest P2P movie resource
Cons:
There's work involved, you must upload, gain credit, to download at a decent speed.
DC++
Pros:
Many Terabytes of Data
Massive resource of files, usually fast connections
Huge resource for anything you need
Cons:
Minimum share size per hub means u have to have GB's shared to use it.
Public hubs get almost overused, most slots are used up very quickly
Bit Torrent
Pros:
Probably the easist P2P in the world to use and understand
Can be extremely fast downloads
One of the best P2P resources for new stuff
Cons:
Relies on Torrent sites that are often very slow, or completely offline
Leechers are hitting it very bad recently
The final 2 are NOT P2P but thought I'd add them in...
Newsgroups
Pros:
Good resource for new stuff
Always loads to download
Its not filesharing so you dont have to upload anything
Cons:
You need a GOOD news server which you may have to pay for
IRC
Pros:
xdcc bots usually run on very high speed connections and can serve a lot of people at once. ive often seen bots with up to 300 upload slots
Very fast resource for new movies and games
Scripts like xdccklipper make downloadiong very simple
Cons:
Netsplits may occur, disconnecting bots from their channels
CRC errors on downloads, meaning you may have to go to an incomplete channel to redownload a corrupted rar
Sometimes bots just completely disappear in the middle of downloading!
Well all of the above are the best public resopurces I can think of. The very best you can get, are not publically accessable lol!
