i have an AMD athalon 1.11 Ghz cpu with 512 Ram, I run xp pro. ok so when i try to encode it even just to the hard drive it will freeze around 40-50% i also have problems when playing a dvd file or disc where my comp will freeze around the same area. this is pretty much with any movie. any help would be appreciated. thanxs

Do you have enough room on your hard drive for the files? Have you ever been able to rip a DVD with this computer?
You may just want to do the normal PC maintenance stuff, defrag, disc clean up, etc. Make sure you don't have a bunch of apps running in the background as well. See if that helps. Good place to start anyhow.
