Hi there, this is my first post but I have been visitng this forum on a regular basis for the past few months. I mainly use TDK and Verbatim DVD-r since I have a very fussy LGGSA4082 DVD rewriter.
I just saw this offer http://svp.co.uk/acatalog/FOR_DVD_R_RW_CLICK_HERE.html
for 8X Taiyo Yuden's. They are apparently top class media from what I have read. Has anybody tried these yet and do you think that these are these grade A?

Hi,
Though I haven't tried the 8X TY media I can tell you that they are among the best media available. My Plextor PX-708A performed wonderfully with the TY 4X media.
My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

I started using the Taiyo Yudens & the last ream I purchased were the 8x certified inkjet printable & they are definately top notch.

I'd like to know how they compare (compatability wise) to Ritek G05's.
I've been searching high and low for high quality DVD-R and even the fabled CloneDisc brand don't 'bake my cake'.
I have only ever heard good things about TY. I'd love to pay the extra for TY if I knew they were flawless.

SVP are fine, very quick delivery,no bad batches as yet and ive been using them for discs and burners for about 12 months now.Recommended.

I Must admit that my recent batch of clonedisc white top and silver printable were pretty shyte, the discs were packed in cellophane block of 50 which caused scoring to about a dozen discs.Shame cos the place where i got them from were real helpful

Yeah, TY's are supposed to be the best. Besides SVP, I found a site, blankshop.com that has 4x Maxells made by TY for £15.00. This seems really reasonable to me and is really tempting. The main draw from the SVP discs is that they're 8x but they do come in batches of 100, hence my trepiditions. Cheap media work really poorly on my LG GSA 4082b even with the latest firmware.

Hey ACEburner,
I also have the LGGSA4082 DVD rewriter. I agree that this writer works poorly with cheap media. I used hypermedia dvd-r with this burner and all of the dvd had glicthes when I played them on my dvd player. I just brought a bunch of ritek, prodisc, and verbatim dvd-r to try out.
What brand of dvds worked best for you?
And what firmware are u using for this writer?
I'm not using any firmware right now and I'm not sure what firmware does...

Hi berserk,
Yeah I tried many types of DVD-R's in the past.
Here goes:
1)Datawrite 4x Red v3 DVD-R: burns at 2x, occasional lost frame on playback.
2)Bulkpaq orange 4X DVD-R :exactly like the datawrite reds...only burns at 2X
3)Datawrite gray 8x(Fuji) DVD-R:Although dvdinfopro and Nero identify this as 8x media it burns at 4x i.e. 15-18mins for a full DVD.
4)Verbatim Datalife plus 4x(MCC) DVD-R: Burns at 4x and plays back without any artifact, Good discs.
5)TDK 4x (TT)DVD-R: Like Verbatims 100% burns so far.
6)Maxell 4x (TY)DVD-R: Flawless.
7)Datasafe 4X DVD+RW (ricoh): 2 out of ten came scratched and unusable. Works well otherwise
8)Philips DVD+RW (philips) Made in Netherlands!: Flawless so far, plays great on DVD player.
I use firmware A207 on my LG GSA4082b, Nero 6.3.1.20, AMD XP 2500M+ overclocked to 2300MHZ, NF-2s motherboard.
Surprisingly, I have never tried Ritek, it just gets so confusing about quality issues. Also, I do want my discs to last and I feel that spending a little more initially, works out better in the long run.
Anybody has advice on DVD-/+R longevity? My guess is that it's not so nuch of the Dye that's used i.e. GO4, TY, MMC, Ricoh but the pressing process. Am I right? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hey ACEburner,
So those are the recommended media for our burner. Damn, only if I asked this question before I brought my dvd-r.
Well I'll try those brands when i'm done with my
4X PRODISC SILVER INKJET PRINTABLE and 4X RITEK SILVER MATTE G04s. I tell you about the quality of these brands when I'm done burning with them.
