Hello, I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm using DVD backup to copy the DVD onto my hardrive and DVD2one to compress it. I then use Disk Utility to burn it on to a DVD. THe burnt DVD has a video TS folder and an empty Audio folder. IT will play on my computer if I open it from the video folder, but won't autimatically play. My DVD player plays DVD-Rs, but won't play mine. Do I have to make it into an image or something? IF so how do I do this? Please help if you know what is wrong? Thanks!

How queer. Well, I'm not sure, but all my DVD back up copies just have the VIDEO_TS folder on them with no audio folder in sight. I process my DVD files using DVD2OneX and it never generates an AUDIO_TS folder. Why yours is doing it I'm not sure, but I'm certain that is the heart of the problem.

I had the exact same expierence, and Londor solved it for me. If the DVD works in your computer, than it's good, the reason it won't play in your other player is becuase the media that you're using is probably not compatible with your player, the one that I use and have never had problems with is RITEK which makes RIDATA DVD-Rs.

To burn a Video-DVD that will play as a commercial one in your computer and stand alone player using Disk Utility first you have to create an image of the VIDEO_TS folder using DVDImager (http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html) and then burn the image. Also use only good quality DVD-R media.

I have built and used PC's for 25 years. I went to Mac approximately six months ago. I cannot figure out why I didn't switch many years ago. I am not one of those imbecile children that feel the insecure need to bash anyone who uses a PC. For me, getting rid of Bill Gates forever was almost as much pleasure as my 16 year old divorce. I have tried and discarded the methods suggested here. Although nothing that has been said is an untruth, I personally find that ripping to the hard drive, a two hour conversion (P4, one gigabyte of ram, 128 meg ATI Raedon 9000) to an mpeg file then MAYBE get a compatible burn, is a waste of my time and money. The external hardware devices are flakey. The software is worse. For a new computer person the procedure borders on the impossible.
I have made three purchases in the last two weeks. Allowing for shipping, I started backing up DVD to DVD, VHS to DVD, TV to DVD and Cam to DVD, three days ago. In those three days, I have backed up 78 DVD/VHS and TV programs. Flawlessly and with one button effort. Let the machine do the work. All of my DVD backups work in my two DVD players, my PC and my iBook. They also work in my Ford Excursion player. I pay 48 cents for my DVD's and less. They work fine. I hope the information below will help someone. If any of my words sound offensive, I assure you I only wish to share a wonderful combination of computer tools.

Fast Copy DVD is a Mac program. $99.00, Put a DVD movie into your super drive or external burner and hit the big round start button. In an hour or less it will ask for a blank DVD. You have to extract the DVD movie. Replace it with a blank DVD. When it is done, usually 30 minutes or less, it will extract. It will ask if you would like to burn another copy. I've never burned one that didn't work in all machines.

The Toshiba D-R2 copies DVD to DVD, VHS to DVD, Cam to DVD and TV to DVD.
It will not copy a protected movie. (Took me eight minutes to fix that) I found it many places online for $350 to $400. I bought it at Vanns.com for $299. Very good shipping and quite fast. Communication was good through email. Do your reading and see what all it will do. It has paid for itself in three days.

The Super Media store has blanks from 35 cents up. they have a 60 day warranty. All I can say about them is they work just fine. I bought 100 for $51.00 (free shipping.) The second hundred was $48.00 with a matt finish.

Phreak9,
In order to have the Mac find your external DVD burner, we have to know the make. I have a Lacie CD/DVD-/+. I found the drivers on their site. Your operating system has something to do with which burner you have and which driver you need. Same with your question as to whether or not you can use + or - media. It depends on what you bought. Some use both some use only the minus such as the Superdrive. Go to this site and scroll down the page. You will have a lot of your questions answered.

If you want to play the movies in your Mac stick with the -R format. Also it is compatible with most stand alone DVD players (about 95%). Just make sure you use high quality media and you will save yourself many headaches.
