Problems going from m2v to mov for FCP

I have used several methods to convert my m2v files into .mov files in order to import them into FCP, but each way, the mov files play faster than their m2v counterparts and I can't seem to figure out why. For example, a 4 minute 20 second m2v file which plays fine in VLC converts to a 3:29 mov which plays really fast.

Any suggestions?
