your friends are lucky. Princo is a very poor quality media, not worth using. Get some ritek G04 discs for high quality and cheap price.

Lite-ons actually prefer dvd+r media something about running OPC to adjust for wobble on dvd-r media. Try some +r's if your set top is compatable. If not you can always booktype them to dvd-rom and they should be compatable. I was haveing some freezing problems with my last batch of g04's so I switched to ritek dvd+r (media code ricohjpnr01) and every burn/rip since has played back perfectly.

Princo are poor and variable quality media which *needs* a robust drive/firmware to cope with them.

LiteOn DVD writers are relatively picky things, particularly with DVD-R media, and lack the sophistication of Pioneer or newer NEC drives when it comes to calibrating media effectively.

Put the two together and you get trouble, as you have experienced.

If you want to use the Princo discs, buy an NEC 2510A.

If you want to use the LiteOn drive, buy better media. Ritek G04 isn't a bad choice, but these drives like Ricoh-MID +R media best among the "cheaper" media, as Mort81 says. Install the latest bitsetting firmware to the LiteOn and you'll be able to write cheap end-of-line 4x Ricoh media at 8x.

I'll go along with that jase as my Lite-on will do most media. However i had to update the firmware recently as it does not take well to some of the cheaper brands of media as to the correct speeds.I normally only use the yellow Datawrite 4 x speed discs. However i have been having some amazing results with my NEC 2510A since i put a firmware update on it.For some reason it lets me burn the 4 speed Datawrite at 8 speed with no loss in quality. Can't understand why buy hey who is complaining not me.

Can you find out the MID code of the Datawrite
Yellow you use? In the past they were Princo, but these days they are Ritek G04...

The one ive been getting 8 speed out of have
had batch No j3-05l23405108288817 (v2)Datawrite Ritek G04.

Just opened another Batch H5-04024 so on they will just do the 4 speed expected.

Weird sfuff but hey last 2 batches wrote at 8 speed so can't complain. Will keep a look out for simular batches on the market.
