I recently had many problems involving backup games loading extremely slow. I tried a few different solutions, and a few worked sporadically. I believe that I have gotten to the root of my problem, so I will post the solution here.

My problem involving slow loading games was caused by the temporary image file being placed on an overloaded and extremely fragmented hard drive.

I recently started to place the image file on a drive that is mostly empty, and every backup that I made worked as good as, if not better, than the original.

Remember, most defragmenting programs don't necessarily make an effort to organize blocks in an effort to create contiguous space, but they just organize them to improve seek time.

A program by Raxco called PerfectDisk tries to create contiguous space, and I think it's availiable for a 30-day trial or something. The best thing to do is to have one drive that is mostly empty and place your temporary image files on that.

Remember, this is the solution that worked for me. If you make any coasters trying to use this solution, don't scream at me about it.
