upmixing stereo wav to 5.1

Having created several dvd's from avi's i find that i can only get stereo sound from the end dvd.
Is it possible to convert the audio somehow to 5.1 surround sound so that i get all my home cinema speakers playing the film sounds?

Help please!!!

Hi
Couldn't find what i was looking for.
Surely there must be a software program that can make my created dvd's (from avi) play through all 6 speakers on my home cinema???

Help!!!

i can't be more elaborate, as i don't do this, but have read some articles etc. but its still possible, jus don't expect it to be dolby labs quality
